Caribbean Best Beer Fest

Caribbean Best Beer FestWell it's been a while since I've blogged about any events, but this is one that I couldn't let pass without sharing. As my daughter asked me recently, "Why do you like beer so much?" Well besides the fact that it makes me a jolly good fellow, uh, it could be all the beer I drank in college. But that's only because it was like "Beer, it's what you drink at parties!" To which I'm extremely glad, because it would have sucked going to a party and having a wine tasting or some lame shit like that.

What I told her is that I just enjoy the taste of it. I mean, what's not to like? Anyway, this weekend (October 4th and 5th) you can participate in the first beer convention in the Caribbean at the Caribbean Best Beer Fest. The "fest" will go down at the Coliseo de Arecibo Manuel "Petaca" Iguina Reyes, and will feature a wide variety of beer and entertainment.

Surprisingly the cost is only $25, which covers a beer mug in which you can drink all the beer you want, and all of the food you can eat. Which sounds like a pretty good deal, I guess as soon as you include wine, tickets have to be $80, but since it's beer it's cheaper. On Saturday doors open at 7:00 pm, while doors open at 11:00 am on Sunday.

Musical guests for the event include:

  • On Saturday:
    • Propuesta Musical:
    • Batucada Batureke (presentación especial de zanquero)
    • DJ Lady Liquid
    • DJ Gulembo
    • La Secta All Star
  • On Sunday:
    • Batucada Batureke (presentación especial de zanquero)
    • DJ Lady Liquid
    • Mariachi Los Camperos
    • Joseph Fonseca
There will be some other distractions available each day, but if you're going, I'm going to guess that besides the beer, pretty much the only other thing you might be interested in is the members of the opposite sex. Am I right?

I think that this is a pretty cool idea. I, for one, am tired of the wine and whatever snob fests that are typically offered, and I'm glad to see beer play the staring role in an event. My only complaint would be the focus on mass produced beer, instead of micro-brewery style offerings. I mean until you've had some beers with 9 or 10% alcohol, well then you just haven't tried a real beer. Besides that, it sounds like my kind of event. Throw up some diamond vision screens showing football on Sunday and I guess you might call it heaven.

Okay, I'm sorry to say that this is the first beer fest without beers. At 9:00 pm there was no beers left.
