Jose FelicianoLocal music icon Jose Feliciano has been invited to perform before his holiness Pope Benedict XVI during a mass to be offered in the house that Ruth built, New York Yankees Stadium. The mass will be held on April 20th. Feliciano will be performing in Australia in early April and will have to return to New York to participate.

Feliciano, who is a six-time Grammy award winner, was invited to perform in the mass according to a press release issued by Feliciano's agent Rogers & Cowan. The crowd is estimated to exceed 60,000 devotees. This mass will be part of the pontiff's first journey to the United States of America and only the third time a pope has visited New York City.

Prior to giving the mass, the pope will visit Ground Zero, the site of the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York, to show "solidarity with those who have died, with their families and with all those who wish an end of violence and in the search of peace," said Archbishop Pietro Sambi, the Vatican's ambassador to the U.S.
