Museo de Arte de Ponce Temporary Closing Celebration

Flaming JuneThe Museo de Arte De Ponce invites everyone to their closing celebration. Now before you jump to the wrong conclusion, the museum isn't the latest victim of the local economic downturn. No, the museum will be closing for remodeling until 2010, so to put the best possible spin on the closure, the museum is inviting everyone to become part of the transformation. Nice.

On March 30th, the museum will host a closing party. During the festivities, the museum will be open, free of charge, and offer a full day of activities and attractions. On the agenda for the special day are:

  • Arte Sonoro
  • Video arte
  • Cao Vélez y sus pleneros
  • Banda Municipal de Ponce
  • Coro de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico
  • Freddy Soto y su comprarsa de vejigantes tradicionales.
In addition, special commemorative t-shirts will be free to the first 150 participants. While the museum will open for the last time at 10:00 a.m., the festivities will not start until 2:00 p.m.

The temporary closing explains a couple of things. First, recently the museum announced that the keystone piece from the museum, "Flaming June" would be on loan to the Tate Briton in London England. And second, the opening of the Museo de Arte de Ponce Anexo in Plaza Las Americas, which currently features the historic Rodin exhibition.
