Prime Outlets de Puerto Rico to Double in Size

Inaugurated in 2000, the Barcelonta outlet center Prime Outlets de Puerto Rico has announced a major expansion. Currently the outlet shopping center consists of 170,000 square feet of space and it will expand 160,000 square feet more to a total of 330,000 square feet. The addition will bring an additional 55 stores to the shopping center, supposedly doubling the number of brands available. A list of the current stores and brands is available here.

Built with an initial investment of $60 million in 2000, the Prime Outlets shopping center was the first "outlet" style shopping center available in Puerto Rico but was quickly followed by the construction on the 440,000 square foot Belz Factory Outlet in Canóvanas. The Prime Outlet expansion has already started and is expected to be complete by November of 2008, which I'm sure they're betting on will be just in time for the 2008 Christmas rush.

By the way, just in case you find yourself in need of some free wireless Internet service when you are in the vicinity of Barceloneta, the Prime Outlets Food Court offers service from Liberty Cable.
