Mech-Tech Cup in Salinas

BurnoutStarting this Friday, Mech-Tech will host their 13th annual Mech-Tech Cup at the Salinas Puerto Rico International Speedway. The drag race will feature over $40,000 in prizes among a wide variety of categories. In addition, the Puerto Rico International Speedway will celebrate 32 years of acceleration in Salinas.

On Friday August 3rd, 4th and 5th, competitors in the following categories will compete two by two and head to head to determine the fastest cars in Puerto Rico: Pro Modified, Top Sportman, Super Pro, 16 Modified ¾ y ½ chassis, Super Baby Pro & Baby Pro, No Box, Jr. Dragster, Street Eliminator, and the Mech-Tech Super Bracket for the students of the Colegio Universitario Industrial Mech-Tech.

The action starts on Friday at 5:00 P.M. when they open the doors of the race track for testing and adjustments. All student projects must be tested on Friday. On Saturday, the doors open at 10:00 A.M. At 12:00 noon student races will start for those teams from Mech-Tech campuses in Caguas, Bayamón, Vega Baja and Mayagüez. At 4:00PM the race track will be ready for the time trials for all cars competing in the drag race. All of the categories will begin their elimination rounds on Saturday, leaving only the fastest cars. The first qualification will start at 6:30PM on Saturday, starting with Super Pro, Top Sportman / Dragsters, Pro Modified, Modified ¾ and ½ Chassis, Full Chassis, Baby Pro and No Box.

On Sunday the doors open at 8:00 A.M. and the race course will be ready to continue qualifications at 9:00 A.M. sharp. The first round of the official race will start at 1:00PM in the following order: Super Pro, Top Sportman and Dragsters, Full Chassis, Pro Modified, Mech Tech Bracket, Modified ¾ and ½ Chassis, Baby Pro and No Box.
