El Barbero de Sevilla

I'd have to say, that right after avant-garde jazz, opera would have to be my least favorite music. I, in fact, pride myself with enjoying quite a wide range of music, if you were to find my iPod you'd see that this was true. But opera and me, ohh man, we're like oil and water.

I recognize the talent, I can admire the dedication, and even appreciate the passion of the performances, but I guess when it comes to opera, give me Tommy, thank you very much. I'm not dogging anyone if it's their thing, so if you are a fan, then you'll probably not want to miss the performance of "El Barbero de Sevilla", which I understand is a classic. Under the banner of Opera Al Fresco, the Cuartel de Ballaja will host the performance of the opera next Saturday, August 11th at 8:00 p.m.

The performance is not only open to the public, but it is also is free as well. With a prestigous collection of sponsors, the opera is directed by Antonio Barasorda (scenery) Jo-Anne Herrero (choir), and Roselin Pabon (orchestra). The opera will star Guido Lebron, Rosa Betancourt, Joel Prieto, Ricardo Lugo, Jorge Ocasio, Jo-Anne Herrero, and Joaquin Jarque.

The Barber of Seville is an opera buffa in two acts by Gioachino Rossini with a libretto (based on Beaumarchais's comedy Le Barbier de Séville) by Cesare Sterbini.
