5to Coloquio Académico

Blade RunnerTomorrow, the Facultad de Derecho Eugenio María de Hostos will kick-off their 5to Coloquio Académico, entitled "Ni una vida más para la toga". The 5th Academic Colloquium “Not another life for the robe” will focus on the most important sci-fi film of the 20th century, Blade Runner, celebrating its 25th anniversary (1982-2007).

The film is a pre-text to explore the topics of memory, surveillance and the disposable subject in the context of the transformation of the state in the increasing repression from the social and labor perspective. The central theme of the film, the concept of individual and collective memory, will provide the setting for the discussion of these themes. Who have we been? Who will we become?

The keynote speaker will be Professor Boaventura de Sousa Santos, from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, who is one of the most distinguished international theoreticians of Sociology of Law. Additional presentations will run from the 18th of April through April 20th. A complete schedule is available on the school's website.

The colloquium is an initiative of the Eugenio María de Hostos School of Law and is cosponsored by the International Institute for Sociology of Law, Oñati, Spain, Grupo de Investigaciones Criminológicas of the University of Los Andes, Mérida, Venezuela, University of Sagrado Corazón, Ley y Foro, the Journal of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, Rafael Pérez, CPA & Associates and Rene Pinto Lugo Law Firm.
