Tourism scholarships available

Looking for a career in tourism?The Caribbean Hotel Foundation has announced the deadline, April 15th, for their 2007 scholarship program. The scholarship is aimed at students, teachers, and professionals in the tourist industry in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean that are interested in continuing their careers in tourism.

Interested parties need to complete an application that is available at the Caribbean Hotel Foundation web site. The scholarships start at $1,000 and go up to $5,000, in addition the foundation offers corporate scholarships up to $10,000. To qualify, interested parties must be native of the Caribbean and have a high school diploma or equivalent. In addition, the recipient must be interested in starting a career related to the tourism industry and be able to demonstrate the necessary financial need.

The Caribbean Hotel Foundation was established in 1987 as a non-profit organization, through which scholarships and special assistance would be made available for the education of Caribbean hotel industry personnel and students pursuing hotel careers. As part of its mission, the Foundation provides people throughout the Caribbean region with an awareness of the industry’s varied career opportunities, as well as technical and professional development.

Today, the CHA Foundation administers one of the largest scholarship programs available in the Caribbean Hospitality Industry. Funds for these scholarships and grants are generated from the CHIC Foundation Auction, Corporate Sponsorship and Island Golf Tournaments, in addition to generous support from American Express.
