Medalla Light Ultimate Dirt ChallengeThey are kicking up the dirt in Rincon again this weekend. No, not the unauthorized college campers, I mean the mountain bikers as Rincon hosts the 5th annual Medalla Light Ultimate Dirt Challenge. Today they started practice, which they will continue tomorrow, for the big event on Sunday the 25th. The competition kicks-off at 9:00 AM and the elites will race at 2:00 PM. The event will take place on the grounds of the Rincon Faro and is expected to attract more than 300 riders and 2,500 mountain biking enthusiasts.

Club Contra El Viento, The Puerto Rican Mountain Bike Commission and Puerto Rican Cycling Federation have included The Medalla Light Ultimate Dirt Challenge as a "CLASS ONE " cross country race on the Union Cyclist International (UCI) calendar. This Classification makes the race one of the most important in America. There are only four class 1 races in America. and the Ultimate Dirt Challenge is the only one in Latin America. In addition, the racers will collect points in the UCI rankings, which will qualify them to the 2008 Summer Olympics.

All ready confirmed for the race are Jeremiah Bishop (USA) Pan-American Mountain Bike Champion, Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski USA National Champion, Todd Wells (USA) Three Times (and defending) Ultimate Dirt Challenge Champion and hopefully champions from Canada, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Chile and Costa Rica.
