Jardín Botánico y Cultural de Caguas - Inaugural Weekend

La arboleda ancestral africanaThe inaugural events of the Jardín Botánico y Cultural de Caguas continue through the weekend with events and activities on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, March 31st, at 6:00 PM, before the grand spectacle of the evening, the Compañia Municpal de Teatro de Títeres will present a show for children entitled "Nuestra Raíces, Nuestra Tierra". The show will be held in the Visitor Center.

Finally, at 7:00 PM, the Autonomus Municipality of Caguas will present "Nuestras raices, nuestra tierra en Isla de Identidad". This activity will include presentations of Bomba and Plena Hermanos Cepeda and Hermanos Ayala. In addition there will be a Flamenco demonstration and a Trovador demonstration with Cuerdas del Coqui. Finally there will be a demonstration of our Taíno heritage.

The masters of ceremony will be Georgina Borri and Reynaldo Robles, who will guide the show through performances by:

Luis Morales Ramos, Jovino González, Angel Olmeda, y Gumersindo Reyes

Then on Sunday, April 1st, the Jardín Botánico y Cultural de Caguas will host the "Festival de Zingiberales". The festival will take place from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM and will include an exhibition of heliconias, workshops, and conferences.

Zingiberales is a botanical name for a order of flowering plants. Such an order has been widely recognized by the taxonomists, at least for the past few decades. This order includes many familiar plants like ginger, cardamom, turmeric, myoga, and also banana and arrowroot.
